Lou has dabbled in the radio-controlled hobby for more than 20 years, driving cars and flying helicopters. But it is in just the last five years that he has decided to dive into competitive off-road racing with a full commitment to weekly racing over the past three seasons that has allowed him to evolve into a top competitor on a consistent basis.

He was fourth in the 2010 Delta Winter Series and sixth in the 2010 Nor-Cal Championship Series, both in 1/8 scale Nitro Truggy. In 2011, Lou was an A Main qualifier in both 2wd and 4wd short course at the 2011 Turkey Shootout (Outback Raceway) in Chico, California.

Fully committed to getting faster and more consistent, Lou spends hours practicing at local tracks and working on his vehicles. The hard work paid off in 2012 with numerous victories in club races as well as the series championship in 4wd Short Course at the LSR Speedway Thursday Night Nats Series and LSR Winter Off-Road Series. He also posted Top 5 finishes in 4wd SCT during the ’12 season at the 24th Annual April Fools Classic (Magna, UT), 3rd Annual Outback Shootout (Chico, CA), 2nd Annual Motown Showdown (Modesto, RC), Northern California Electric Championships (Union City, CA), Pay It Forward Race (Chico, CA), North vs. South Challenge (Madera, CA), Sizzling Summer Shootout (Sacramento, CA), and Outback Raceway Fall Brawl (Chico, CA). Lou also was 10th overall against stacked professional fields at both the JConcepts Summer Indoor Nationals (Chico, CA) and Short Course Showdown (Las Vegas, NV), but his most impressive showing came at the 2012 US Worlds Warmup at Silver Dollar Raceway in Chico, California where he won the 1/8 eBuggy title. He also won the 2012 Pro4 vs. Pro2 ProTek R/C Challenge Cup.

2013 has started in impressive fashion for Figueria. He won the 2wd open short course title at the 4th Annual Outback Shootout in Chico and the 4×4 Short Course championship at the March Madness Race at CVR Raceway in Madera, CA and the Traction Raceway Showdown in Reno as well as the 1/8 eBuggy crown at the NCVM Benefit Race at Rattlesnake Raceway in Redding, CA. He also placed second in 1/8 eBuggy and third in 4wd SCT in the recently completed final standings of the very competitive Delta RC Winter Electric Series.

Regardless of what he is driving, Lou’s style is flat-out and high-flying, which might have a little to do with his love for jet skiing and riding ATVs/quads. During the day, he is an accomplished self-employed handyman in the Sacramento area and part-time student at Epic Bible College.
